Untitled (Ver navios passar)
“Ver passar navios” is an old expression that comes from the contemplative attitude of Portuguese people that, since the 16th century, searched for the highest spots in their towns in order to watch ships, hoping that one of them would bring D. Sebastião, our M.I.A. messiah king, back. Alive or resurrected.
Watching ships passing by means now doing nothing at all, wasting your time. But it also suggests a contemplative state, the condition of being spectator of your own life, the one that passes by, while you step aside and just watch.
Binding former practices of ship and memory spotting, Untitled is an installation composed by 59 hand painted nautic signs (poster paint on paper) and a sticker-letter caption.
